With the SIMATIC IPC Remote Manager you can use functions of the Intel Active Management Technology (Intel AMT) for SIMATIC IPCs. Intel AMT is used for remote management of PCs.

Intel AMT offers a range of functions, such as:

  • Remote reboot
  • IDE redirection
  • Keyboard video mouse redirection
  • Power on / off / reset, and
  • An integrated web server.

SIMATIC IPC Remote Manager

The SIMATIC IPC Remote Manager enables the use of Intel Active Management Technology (Intel AMT). Efficient and central service concepts can be implemented with remote access to SIMATIC IPCs. For example, system or program errors can be corrected, or BIOS and program updates can be performed from a control room (without deployment in the field). Access is ensured even if the operating system no longer starts.

Centralized startup and shutdown of systems or installation of updates outside production time increases system availability and saves resources. Remote access is handled by a secure HTTPS (HyperText Transfer Protocol Secure) or TLS (Transport Layer Security) connection.

  • Keyboard Video Mouse Redirection (KVM)
    The keyboard-video-mouse signal can be redirected to or from a PC of the IT department, allowing for the PC’s remote operation by an administrator without any additional hardware.
  • Remote Power Control
    Power and operating cost reductions can be realized through targeted switch-off and switch-on. The computer can be selectively shut down overnight or during weekends or switched on temporarily for an update. Also reset is supported.
  • Remote Reboot
    The computer can be rebooted from a hard disk, CD or network drive, which does away with time- and cost-intensive travel expenditures for service staff.
  • IDE Redirection
    To prevent time-consuming handling, for example an ISO file saved on a hard disk of the IT Management Console can be made available as CD-ROM drive.

This can be used to divert the keyboard video mouse signal of a remote computer to or from an IT computer via a remote connection so that an administrator can access and operate the computer without additional hardware.

Remote Power Control

This allows SIMATIC IPCs with Intel AMT functions to be switched off and on via remote access, e.g. for maintenance purposes. If the operating system of the AMT computer is no longer operable, you can thus still perform a reset or restart. With this function, even the electricity costs of a company can be reduced e.g. by specifically shutting down computers left running by employees at night or at the weekend

Disk Redirection (IDE-R)

The AMT client can read data from an ISO image existing on the admin computer and start programs, e.g. to carry out BIOS and software updates.

Remote reboot

This can be used to reboot the PC by remote access from the hard disk, CD or a network drive, e.g. following a program update.

Web server

In addition, the Web server integrated in the AMT computer can be accessed using a Web browser (e.g. Internet Explorer). Here you can scan hardware and system information, and actions such as power on / off / reset can be performed.

Intel® AMT can only be used on SIMATIC IPCs with Core i5, Core i7 and Xeon processors. Other processors (e.g. Celeron, Pentium, Core i3 or Core2) are not supported.
