The SIMATIC HMI Thin Client Ex can be used directly in hazardous zones 1/21 and 2/22 without the need for special measures such as complex and expensive enclosures or additional certification processes. Furthermore the units are capable of withstanding considerable vibrations and shocks and have been certified for use in shipbuilding.

Application

The SIMATIC HMI Thin Client Ex is designed for use as an operator station for terminal and client applications in hazardous areas, and in particular for applications for which the performance of the SIMATIC HMI Panel PC Ex is insufficient, or when the server is located in a protected area of the plant. The widely-used RDP and Real VNC protocols are supported.

Together with the digital KVM Box, the device functions as a flexible monitor with touch functionality for PCs e.g. in control rooms.

Area of application

Simatic HMI Thin Client Ex was designed for operation and monitoring as a flexible remote HMI station, for example as a thin client in a remote terminal environment close to the machine in hazardous zones 1/21 and 2/22

With its 15 and 19 inch displays the device can handle standard visualization tasks as well as more demanding applications. The 15-inch unit is also available with a particularly luminous display for use in daylight applications

Integration

Integrated interfaces with SIMATIC HMI Thin Client Ex:

  • 10/100 Mbit 100 base TX (Ex e) or 100 base FX (Ex op is) network
  • 1 x RS232 or 1 x RS422/485
  • 4 x USB 2.0 (2 x Ex I, 2 x Ex e (version Zone 1) or 2 x Ex nA (version Zone 2))

Design and functions

The Simatic HMI Thin Client Ex for operator control and monitoring facilitates flexible connection as a thin client or monitor, via Ethernet at an unlimited distance from the associated processor unit.
In the thin client architecture, the RDP or RealVNC remote protocol is used for communication with the server. Additional software on the computer that takes up memory space or can cause changes in the server’s operating system is not necessary.
In combination with a digital KVM- Box (optional) up to 4 remote stations (display clones) can be run as distant monitors.

The high IP66 degree of protection on the front and IP65 on the rear enable direct use outdoors at ambient temperatures from minus 20 to plus 50 Grad Celsius.
A heated housing option is available for use down to minus 30 degrees..

The Thin Client is available in a variant for Ex-zone 1/21 and a less expensive variant for EX-zone 2/22 both with corresponding certifications.

The 15-inch unit is also available with a particularly luminous display for use in daylight application.

The SIMATIC HMI Thin Client Ex can be mounted in cabinets or consoles or be ordered together with housings for mounting on swivels, pedestals or directly on the wall. When ordering with a housing the device is shipped pre-assembled.
Ex-certified keyboards can be ordered as well.
