Application

Various CPUs with graduated levels of performance are available for SIMATIC S7-300. Compact CPUs can be used in addition to the standard CPUs.
Technology CPUs and fail-safe CPUs are also available.

  • CPU 317T-3 PN/DP for plants with high demands on the program scope and distributed configuration using PROFIBUS DP and PROFINET IO, which also require regulated motion control of up to 32 axes.
  • CPU 317TF-3 PN/DP for plants with high demands on the program scope and distributed configuration using PROFIBUS DP and PROFINET IO, which require safety functions and also regulated motion control of up to 32 axes.

All CPUs have a rugged, compact plastic housing. The following components are located on the front panel:

  • LEDs to indicate status and errors
  • Mode selector
  • Connection for MPI

The CPUs also include:

  • Slot for SIMATIC Micro Memory Cards (MMC);
    MMCs replace the integrated load memory and are therefore an absolute requirement for operation.
  • Connection for integrated inputs/outputs via the front connector (compact CPUs only)
  • Connection for PROFIBUS (DP CPUs only)
  • Connection for RS 422/485 (PtP CPUs only)
  • Connection for PROFINET (PN CPUs only)

Function

SIMATIC S7-300 CPUs combine high performance, reduced space requirement and minimized maintenance costs, and thereby considerably improve the price-performance ratio.

  • High processing speed;
    for example, 0.05 µs for bit operations or 0.45 µs for floating-point operations in CPU 315-2 DP,
    0.004 µs for bit operations or 0.04 µs for floating-point operations in CPU 319-3 PN/DP
  • Expanded quantity framework
  • SIMATIC Micro Memory Card (MMC) as load memory:
    A complete project—including symbols and comments—can be stored on the MMC. Read/write access is also available in RUN. This reduces service costs
  • Backup of RAM data on the MMC without battery
Programming

CPUs are programmed with STEP 7 in LAD, FBD or STL. The following programming tools may be used: STEP 7 Basis and STEP 7 Professional.

The engineering tools (e.g. S7-GRAPH, S7-HiGraph, SCL, CFC or SFC) can be run as of CPU 314.

Standard CPUs

Standard CPUs are programmed with STEP 7, V5.2 Service Pack 1 or higher.

Compact CPUs

Compact CPUs are programmed with STEP 7, V5.3 Service Pack 2 or higher. Older STEP 7 versions require an upgrade.
