Siemens LOGO! Logic Modules are the ideal controller for small automation tasks in home, industrial and building services. These intelligent Logic Modules provide unparalleled user friendliness and usability and handles nearly every functional requirement with high speed and precision. The modular design of the LOGO! units and extras give you flexability with your projects and allow for easy expansion. With a growing range of LOGO! Expansion modules, you can increase the amount of digital/analog inputs and outputs you have.
Siemens LOGO! Micro-PLC’s are available in a wide range of supply voltages making them ideal for every environment. The LOGO! can be purchased individually or as part of a Starter Kit, which contain all the nessicary equipment to get you up and running. The most popular being the OBA7 with its new intergrated ethernet port which can be used for many tasks including direct programming of the units.

What distinguishes LOGO!?
LOGO! from Siemens offers you the support you need at a price you can afford. Perform small-scale automation tasks more quickly and free up space in your switch cabinet.
With 8 basic logic functions and 30/35 special functions, the LOGO! logic module can replace a large number of conventional switching and control devices. The natural logic module choice: LOGO! now is even more versatile for analog value applications and simple control tasks.
The integrated display of LOGO! can be used to show and change process parameters, as well as for programming of LOGO!.
LOGO! 8 with the new display accommodates virtually every demand of customers with simplified handling, and full communication options via Ethernet. The web server application does not need any html knowledge.
Via Ethternet communication you can create configurations including SIMATIC HMI and S7 controllers.
Additionally communications modules are available, providing communications via SMS, time synchronization and position detection, or to create small ethernet networks.
Functionality
Despite the ongoing and consistent development of the functionality, ease of operation for programmers and users has always been paramount.
For this reason we introduced “ready-to-use functions” such as ON/OFF delay, weekly timer, pulse generator, astro timer, annual timer, stop watch, etc. which usually have to be programmed first in a typical PLC. More than 40 functions are available and programs can include up to 400 blocks.
Customers can use LOGO! to program their own macro functions and create libraries from tested subfunctions. The option to record data opens up new areas of application.
LOGO! 8 starting from version FS:04 offers in combination with LOGO! Soft Comfort 8.1 the following new functions:
- Extented temperature range -20 to 55°C, without condensation
- Integrated Modbus TCP/IP communication
- Date- and time synchronization via NTP
- LOGO! Access Tool for writing process values directly into an Excel sheet in RUN mode of the LOGO!
Each generation includes basic devices, expansion modules, communication modules and external text displays. All family members have been approved for installation in the home! The latest version of the LOGO! SoftComfort V8 software can be used for convenient programming of all previous LOGO! generations.

Expansion modules
A wide range of modules gives you the option to expand LOGO! very individually.
Expansion modules are connected to the backplane bus of LOGO! by means of an integrated slider.
A wide range of modules allows individual expansion of LOGO! to 24 digital inputs,16 digital outputs,
8 analog inputs and 2 analog outputs!
Maximum configuration:
- LOGO! 8: 24 digital inputs, 20 digital outputs, 8 analog inputs and 8 analog outputs
- LOGO! 6 and 7: 24 digital inputs, 16 digital outputs, 8 analog inputs and 2 analog outputs
The number of modules that can be connected is limited by the process image.
The Ethernet connection lets you increase the maximum configuration.
By networking LOGO! 8 and/or LOGO! 7 devices, the maximum configuration can be expanded to
88 DI, 80 DQ, 40 AI and 18 AQ.

Communication modules
A variety of communication modules is available for the different LOGO! generations.
With LOGO! 8, the communication modules are connected via Ethernet (CSM and CMR).
For LOGO! 6 and 7, the communication modules for AS-Interface and KNX are connected via the backplane bus.

The SIPLUS upmiter is available as add-on.
To ensure dependable operation of LOGO! devices supplied by the battery in conjunction with combustion engines, we recommend using a SIPLUS upmiter ballast device between the battery and the power supply terminals of the SIPLUS devices.

Program creation is very simple with drag-and-drop with maximum user-friendliness.
The switching program is developed step-by-step and can be simulated and tested offline on the PC at any time.
An online test during operation is of course possible.
Last but not least, LOGO! Soft Comfort provides professional documentation with all of the necessary project information such as switching programs, comments, and parameter settings – all in a standard-compliant design.
You can create your own macro blocks with LOGO! Soft Comfort and organize them in libraries. Support for data logging is just as convenient.
You can, of course, use the latest program version to further process and expand all programs that were created with previous versions.

LOGO! was mainly designed to replace conventional switching technology and offers some interesting communication options.
Originally, LOGO! had a proprietary communication interface for programming. The communication to other systems happens via Ethernet.
The transition to the Ethernet port as standard programming interface opens up new communication options and makes the LOGO! PC cable obsolete.
There is a CSM module available to create small Ethernet networks.
An integrated web server is available in all LOGO! 8 basic units for monitoring and control the LOGO! via WLAN and the Internet. The web server works with all conventional browsers and does not require programming experience in HTML.
LOGO! 8 – SMS communication for alarms and remote control via cell phone using the LOGO! CMR module as well as position detection and clock synchronisation via GPS.

Siemens LOGO! Logic Module
Description
A wide range of expansion modules allows to set up an individual LOGO! configuration.
The maximum depends on the used basic module.
LOGO! 8:
24 digital inputs, 20 digital outputs, 8 analog inputs and 8 analog outputs!
LOGO! 6 and LOGO! 7:
24 digital inputs, 16 digital outputs, 8 analog inputs and 2 analog outputs!
If you do networking of several LOGO! 8 or LOGO! 7 one configuration can be expanded to overall 88 digital inputs, 80 digital outputs, 40 analog inputs and 18 analog outputs.
LOGO! 6 and LOGO! 7 can also be connected to AS-interface and KNX sytems.
To combine different voltage levels you have to keep the following rule:
The basic module must be a 230 V version followed by 230 V expansion modules. Then an analog module must be used to achieve a galvanic isolation. Right from the analog module further analog modules or 12V / 24 V expansions can be attached.

LOGO!8 The new generation
This new model accommodates virtually every application demand with simplified handling, a new display, and full communication options via Ethernet. The web server application makes everything very simple.
A New 6 line display with 16 characters per line. Means twice the number of characters per message and allows you to create clearessages. Three backlight colors are selectable.
Remote communication via mobile network (GSM), time synchronisation and position detection (GPS) provided by a communication module CMR completes the spectrum of new opportunities for LOGO!.

They are cost optimized devices mainly for serial machinery where the end user doesn’t need to have access to any parameters or status information of the I/O signals.
This modules have the same features like the modules with display.
Please note: All features that need the display or function keys are not available.
You may connect an external text display to operate the units. With LOGO! 8, you can use the integrated web server without any display attached. The web server is based on the message text function block.
LOGO! pure modules are programmed mainly via LOGO! SoftComfort and set to “RUN” mode.
If you insert a memory medium with a valid, executable program, the program will be copied to the internal LOGO! memory after “power ON” and the LOGO! will be automatically set to “RUN” mode.

Programming is done either with LOGO! SoftComfort or via a standard Micro SD card. The integrated WEB server can be used without any Display connected.

Description

Although LOGO! was mainly designed to replace conventional switching technology, the LOGO! family offers some interesting communication options. Due to the transition to the Ethernet port as standard programming interface, the current communication modules generally have a different method to connect to the basic units. In previous generations up to LOGO! 7, communication modules were connected via the LOGO! backplane bus and therefore took up address space in the process image of the inputs/outputs. In LOGO! 8, the connection is done via Ethernet. This means the entire address space of the inputs/outputs remains available for digital and analog signals.
Integrated communication

Ethernet opens up completely new communication options based on TCP/IP by using the SIMATIC S7 protocol:
- LOGO! modules with each other
- LOGO! with all SIMATIC S7 controllers
- LOGO! with SIMATIC HMI devices
- LOGO! with communication modules
As part of the transition to the Ethernet port as standard programming interface, the LOGO! PC cable is replaced with a standard Ethernet cable.
The new TDE is also connected via standard Ethernet cable.
All basic units with Ethernet port can be operated on WLAN via corresponding access points. This means they can be programmed, monitored and controlled remotely.
Integrated web server – it couldn’t be easier
The integrated web server in all LOGO! 8 basic units is used for monitoring and control the LOGO! via WLAN and the Internet.
The web server provides:
- Simple configuration via mouse click
- Compatibility with all conventional browsers, without the need for programming experience in HTML
- Required view identical to the LOGO display or the TDE display
- Operation of LOGO! 8 via smartphone, tablet or PC
- Same look and feel as on the display of LOGO! 8 or the TDE

This Ethernet 4-port switch allows to set up cost-efficient, small local Ethernet networks.
Communication via communication modules
The LOGO! family offers several communication modules for the communication with external system. The connection is done via the backplane bus up to generation LOGO! 7.
Between LOGO! 8 and communication modules the connection is done exclusively via Ethernet.
New with LOGO! 8 is SMS communication for alarming and remote control via cell phone using the LOGO! CMR module. It automatically sends out alarm messages via SMS.
The CMR can also read control commands from a SMS and transfer them to LOGO! 8.
The same module supports position detection and clock synchronisation via GPS, for example, for cost-effective container tracking and position reporting via SMS to a control center.
CMR can synchronize the time worldwide with LOGO! 8.
CSM is a Ethernet 4-port switch, that can be used to expand the number of Ethernet ports to set up small local Ethernet networks.

LOGO! CMR communication module
The CMR (Communication Module Radio) for LOGO! 8 has 3 typical areas of application:
1. Communication with LOGO! 8 via SMS (GSM) for alarms, process monitoring and control directly from the mobile terminal unit
2. GPS position detection
3. Time synchronization of LOGO! 8 via NTP server or GPS
LOGO! CMR supports remote communication via the mobile network with LOGO! 8.
This means distributed plants can be monitored and controlled with SMS or alarm messages can be triggered from LOGO!.
Typical applications:
- Fill level or temperature monitoring, alarms on limit violations
- Change of setpoints
- Control of blinds, lights, pumps or irrigation systems, etc. via SMS
- LOGO! as control unit for clocks in church towers or schools and regular time synchronization
- Container tracking: Position data and additional information, such as the current temperature values in a container, are queried from the LOGO! station via SMS and transmitted with the LOGO! CMR.

CSM Compact Switch Module
With the LOGO! CSM 230 and LOGO! CMS 12/24 compact switch modules, LOGO! 8 and LOGO! 7 units can be supplemented with additional Ethernet ports and Ethernet networks can be set up flexibly with 10/100 Mbps in line, tree, or star topology.
The design of the switch modules has been adapted to the LOGO! series for installation in building cabinets, enabling seamless and space-saving installation. One port can be accessed from the front without having to remove the covers. The unmanaged switches can either connect several logic modules to each other, or they offer connections for additional components such as control and monitoring devices, displays, or programming devices (PG). The advantage of unmanaged switches is plug and play, which means they can be used without in-depth IT expertise.

Communication module CMK 2000, CM EIB/KNX

For communication in building automation CMK 2000 offers acces for LOGO! 8, while the CM EIB/KNX communication module are used for LOGO! 7 and LOGO! 6.
One LOGO! can thus be integrated into a KNX system as intelligent controller via the Konnex building bus system.
The CMK 2000 and CM EIB/KNX transform the typical PLC signals (binary or analog) into KNX telegrams for communication with other KNX actuators.
In the opposite direction, they read the KNX telegrams and set the corresponding signal levels for the LOGO!.
Signals that are acquired via the standard LOGO! inputs are thus efficiently linked with signals from the KNX system (telegrams) by means of logical functions or timing elements. Analog signals can be monitored for limits or setpoints and corresponding manipulated variables for actuators can be output on the LOGO! or the KNX.
This opens new opportunities for Applications like:
Monitoring, access control, heating, ventilation and air conditioning (hvac), lighting, blind control , irrigation up to pump control.
The integrated clock of LOGO! can be used for synchronization with other KNX stations.
The LOGO! can be master or slave of the synchronization.
With the communication module LOGO! CMK 2000 the number of channels that can be used is independent from the configuration level of the LOGO!, i.e. the full LOGO! configuration can be used for KNX. The module communicates via Ethernet with LOGO! 8:
- Max. 24 DI, 20 DQ, 8 AI and 8 AQ
- Date and time can be synchronized via KNX
- beside digital and analog inputs and outputs process values inside the application program are available as communication objects on the KNX
- Dimming actuators and shutter/blind actuators on the KNX can be controlled in a system-compliant way
- 50 configurable communication objects are available, the user defines the communication direction and data format himself
With CM EIB/KNX the number of channels that can be used for the KNX communication depend on the configuration level of the LOGO!. The signals of the process image that are not used by the LOGO! hardware are used as virtual inputs via the CM EIB/KNX.

CM AS-Interface slave communication module
LOGO! 7 and LOGO! 6 can be integrated as intelligent slave into an AS-Interface system with the AS-Interface module.
The interface module provides four digital inputs and four digital outputs on the AS-interface.
As intelligent slave, LOGO! processes signals from standard sensors, controls the actuators independently and can receive instructions from the AS-i master via AS-i bus signals and pass on status signals such as error messages to the master. In case of a bus failure, the LOGO! can continue to control its sub-process independently. The expansion module takes up 4 digital inputs and 4 digital outputs of the LOGO! process image.
These virtual I/Os are used just like standard inputs/outputs inside the LOGO! program.

LOGO! Soft Comfort – stands for sensationally easy and quick configuration.
This allows the creation of user programs by selecting the respective functions and their connection via drag-and-drop. This applies to the function block diagram and ladder diagram.
It has been proven useful to program the switching program step-by-step and to simulate and test it on the PC offline. This approach prevents time-consuming troubleshooting in the entire program.
Short configuration times are accomplished by creating your own macro blocks in which frequently recurring program parts are stored in a macro library.
Also possible: An online test during operation.
Last but not least, LOGO! Soft Comfort provides professional documentation with all of the necessary project information such as switching programs, comments, and parameter settings.
The LOGO! Soft Comfort also offers context-related online help that includes details on the individual function blocks and an explanation of the parameters and trends.
The LOGO! offers a comprehensive protection concept for your programs and access to the controller.
You can, of course, use the latest program version to further process and expand all programs that were created with previous versions.
As LOGO! 8 can use larger message texts you are able to update your texts reducing abbreviations and also implement new large sized symbols.
While migrate you should therefore optimize your messages.
At the same time you can activate the integrated web server in the message text.
LOGO! SoftComfort V8 – in new design
Familiar, easy operation in single mode and – brand-new – incredibly simple configuration in network mode (with LOGO! 8 only).
Automatic configuration of communication and display in network view. Up to 16 nodes can be dis-played in the network view.
Up to three programs can be displayed next to each other in single mode as well as network mode.
In network mode, you can easily drag signals from one program to another with drag-and-drop.
The new display of LOGO! 8 now offers twice as many characters per message text. In the external text display (TDE), 2.5 times more characters can be displayed.
This allows more targeted formulation of message texts, without abbreviations, in some cases with additional large-format symbols.
Plus you can activate the integrated web server in the message text of LOGO! 8. Via a WLAN access point you may watch the messages on a mobile device. This makes it rather practical to optimize the text messages during migration.

Creating macro blocks with library function
Recurring program parts can be saved separately as complete macro blocks (UDF user defined functions) and used in other programs.
You can build your own block library including version management from frequently used partial applications.
This speeds up testing and programming.
Version management will inform you when opening a program including a UDF about a later version of the UDF and you have the choice to stay with the old version or to update to the new one.
Macro blocks can be protected individually with a password.
Data logging as of LOGO! 7
Data from the application can be saved in the internal memory of the LOGO! or on a standard SD card as csv file.
This data can then be read from the internal memory by a PC or evaluated directly from the SD card.
Logging can be triggered cyclically or event-based, and up to 32 bytes with time stamp can be stored as one record.

When data is saved on external cards, LOGO! 7 automatically overwrites existing data records according to the FIFO principle once the limit of 2000 data records has been reached.
A new log file is automatically created in LOGO! 8 when the limit of 20,000 data records has been reached. Up to 30 log files can be managed on one card.

Integrated web server for LOGO! 8 – it couldn’t be easier
The integrated web server in all LOGO! 8 basic modules that is used for monitoring and control with LOGO! via WLAN and/or the Internet does not require any HTML experience.
In addition to the integrated LOGO! display or the external Text Display TDE, the text can now also be released for the web server in the message text block. Check a box for the web server – done!
A router connection of the LOGO! 8 is required for the operation of LOGO! 8 via smartphone, tablet or PC with the same look and feel as on the display of LOGO! 8 or the TDE.
Here you can also use LOGO! hardware configurations without internal or external display.
The access to the web server must be enabled and protected by a separate password.
The web server works with all conventional browsers and has been optimized for display on a smartphone, tablet or PC.
A comprehensive and multi-level protection concept protects your know-how!
- Program password:
Protects your program from unauthorized access and/or changes.
The complete program can still be used in multiple LOGO! units.
In parameter mode, individual parameters can be changed at any time in a program protected by a password. If you want to protect individual parameters, you have to select this option in the respective function block - Copy protection (Know-how protection):
If the program is also copy-protected, it can only be used once at a time. You have to use an external storage medium for this purpose. This means when you pull the storage medium from the LOGO! it goes into STOP. The program can then be used in a second LOGO! but not in multiple units simultaneously - For LOGO! 8 – Administrator and Operator mode:
Specific functions, such as start/stop, time, date, etc. can only be changed in Administrator mode. Released parameters can be manipulated in Operator mode - For LOGO! 8 – Access protection:
Separate passwords must be assigned for access via web server, text display, Internet or network.
Demo software
You can use the free demo software to completely develop, test and document your projects – just as with the full version.
The only restriction here is that communication with the hardware is not possible.
